LIVING ROOM GAMES TO PUBLISH EARTHDAWN

Dallas, TX - March 13, 2000 - Living Room Games announces it has acquired
a license from FASA Corporation to publish supplements for the Earthdawn
roleplaying game, reviving it from a 14-month moratorium. "We expect to
print our first Earthdawn book in the spring of this year, with one or two
others to follow in the summer. We're really excited about putting
Earthdawn back in the hands of the fans," said Jason Middleton, President
of Living Room Games. "The company is also in the process of publishing
several other great games in the near future."

Earthdawn has been described by many as a 'post-apocalyptic fantasy
roleplaying game.' The people of Barsaive are still recovering from a
globe-spanning holocaust brought on by the astral monstrosities known only
as the Horrors. Players explore a world that teems with strange creatures
and unseen dangers; a world of lost cities, of ancient, long-forgotten
treasures, and indescribable wonders. In this age of legend, heroes
rekindle the glory of days past and become the legends of tomorrow.

"We're quite pleased that Living Room Games will be keeping the world of
Earthdawn alive and moving forward for the fans," said Mort Weisman, CEO of
FASA Corp. "We believe that they are seriously committed to producing
quality game material."

Living Room Games, founded in 1999 by an enthusiastic group of artists and
writers, is a Dallas-based publisher of roleplaying, board, and card
games. With several hundred years of combined gaming experience between the
founding members, they're almost positive they know what they're doing.
On the serious side, Living Room Games is positioned to provide the gaming
industry with a players perspective and innovative new products.

January 1999:
"FASA ANNOUNCES THE SUNSET OF EARTHDAWN". See http://www.fasa.com/PressReleases/PR%20Earthdawn.htm for details.

July 1998:
FASA has discontinued production on the Earthdawn line and have sacked the Line Developer, Lou Prosperi, on 19 June 1998. At this stage, there has been no confirmed news of a buyer although rumours have flown about the list. The upcoming sourcebook Dragons and the Barsaive at War campaign book have not been published and unless another owner is found, they are unlikely to see the light of day.

1. What is Earthdawn?

Earthdawn is a Fantasy Role Playing Game (FRP) released by the FASA corporation in 1993. The game is set in a mythical past where the evil of the Horrors and their foul, corrupted servants stalk the world searching for victims. Where the treacherous Therans seek domination over the world in their endless search for slaves. Where magic is a part of everyday life. A place rife with adventure and where legends are born.

2. What is the Earthdawn mailing list?

The Earthdawn mailing list is an area where Earthdawn enthusiasts can discuss issues related to the Earthdawn RPG, including rules, settings and cross-overs to the Shadowrun game. Discussion is informal and relaxed, flame wars are discouraged. Two lists have now been created. The first is the normal earthdawn list for all players and GMs. No spoilers should ever be posted to this list. The second list is the earthdawn-gm list where GMs can post on any topic. Spoilers of any nature, including plot discussions, etc are allowed on this list. To subscribe to one of these lists, send a message to: listname-subscribe@lists.earthdawn.org To unsubscribe to one of these lists, send a message to: listname-unsubscribe@lists.earthdawn.org To post to the list itself, send your mail to listname@lists.earthdawn.org For other commands you can use with the list server, send a message to: listname-help@lists.earthdawn.org

Please don't post binaries to the list. The best way to handle binaries is to put them on a WWW or FTP site and then post a message to the list indicating how and where the binary can be found. Another acceptable method is to ask for interested people to email you so you can send your binary to them directly. There are various reasons for not posting binaries to the list including the large size involved, the often limited audience and matters of phone bills.

In general, the list owner is fairly relaxed about most things, however if you have a problem, send some email to discuss the situation. For list members who are new to mailing lists and for those who need a refresher, here's an easy guide to posting to the list:

3. Are there any other related mailing lists?

3.1 Shadowrun

The Shadowrun Discussion List is SHADOWRN@listproc.itribe.net. To subscribe, check out the SHADOWRN FAQ for details. It is recommended to keep discussions on Earthdawn/Shadowrun crossovers to this mailing list as the SHADOWRN list owner forbids this type of discussion (long term threads). You will find a number of subscribers to SHADOWRN on this list anyway.

3.2 German Earthdawn Mailing List

For those who prefer German to English for their Earthdawn conversations, a majordomo mailing list is available. To subscribe to the list, send your mail to ed_d-subscribe@onelist.com. No content is required for this message. To post to the list itself, send your mail to ed_d@onelist.com

3.3 Earthdawn MUD Mailing List

A majordomo mailing list has been setup for discussion about the Earthdawn MUD under construction. NOTE: Status of this list is unknown! To talk to the list software, send your mail to majordomo@isis.fhda.edu. Send the command help in the body of a message to get a list of commands. The ones you're most likely to be interested in are: subscribe ed-mud
unsubscribe ed-mud
To post to the list itself, send your mail to ed-mud@isis.fhda.edu

4. Where is Earthdawn information archived? Is there a web site?

There are numerous sites around the net with information about Earthdawn. Most of these have links to each other, so it isn't difficult to find just about anything to do with Earthdawn out there.

6. What products are currently forthcoming for Earthdawn?

Since the game is now dead, no more new products are likely. In the press release from FASA there was mention of the Dragons sourcebook and some novels possibly being released online. The Dragons sourcebook has now been released. Visit the FASA web site for further details.

7. How can I contact FASA Corporation?

FASA Corporation
1100 W. Cermak
Suite #B305
Chicago
IL 60608

Ph : 312-243-5660
FAX: 312-243-4847

Web Site: http://www.fasa.com/

8. Are there errata available for Earthdawn products?

Yes. FASA and some list members have provided errata (http://storm-wolves.plugged.net.au/edml/ederrata.html) to various Earthdawn products. Please note that spoilers to published adventures could be mentioned within the file.

9. Earthdawn Projects

9.1 Library of Throal

The Library of Throal (http://jflowers.org/earthdawn/library_of_throal/) has been created to provide a focal point for online stories and journals from gaming groups around the globe. For more information about the library, email throal-library@jflowers.spam_me_not.org (please remove the obvious "spam block content" from the email address before sending).

10. How is Earthdawn related to FASA's Shadowrun game?

Detailed discussions on the relationships between Earthdawn and Shadowrun are available at http://storm-wolves.plugged.net.au/edml/edsrcross.html.

11. Miscellaneous Items.

11.1 I've got something new or some changes for the FAQ. What do I do?

Send a message to the list maintainer, clearly explaining what changes you would like to make to the FAQ. These changes should also accompany your message and should be neatly set out.

Note that this FAQ concerns the actual Earthdawn Mailing List and is not a FAQ on Earthdawn. A comprehensive, well maintained Earthdawn FAQ is still needed.

11.2 I posted a message to the list, but it never appeared. What's up?

One possibility for your message not appearing is that you aren't subscribed to the list. If the address from which you post does not exactly match an address on the mailing list, the listserver software rejects your message. This feature was switched on to reduce the amount of spam being received on the list. It has been highly successful.

12. Is there a fanzine? How do I subscribe?

Earthdawn Journal, published from 1994 to 1997, was a semi-official support magazine for Earthdawn. While all the materials appearing in EDJ were approved by Lou Prosperi, then the line developer of ED, they were not considered canon and not accounted for in the official line.

EDJ printed numerous introductory adventures and rules expansions that many people found useful in their campaigns. Plagued by shortages of submissions, an increasingly irregular publishing schedule and lackluster sales, EDJ ceased publication with issue #9, with two more issues in production that never reached the printers.

Back issues after #1 and #2 may be available from Sword of the Knight (swrdknght@aol.com).

Articles from published issues of the magazine are posted to the website, http://www.fortunecity.com/rivendell/rhydin/91/index.htm, on a time-allowing basis, beginning with Issue #1 and working forward. Maps and other crucial illustrations are included where possible. Filler art is not included, although a gallery is planned.

If the new publisher of Earthdawn is interested in picking up the magazine, EDJ's catalog is sufficient for two issues and part of a third at the present time. If the new publisher does not want to support a magazine, then the catalog will be sent to the website, and new submissions will be received for Web publication. No new submissions will be accepted nor new materials posted to the website, only archives from past issues, until the sale of Earthdawn is resolved.

Andrew W. Ragland was a contributing writer for the entire run of the magazine, and the editor of issue #9 and the unpublished issues.

12.1 I've got some great ideas for Earthdawn that I think others would like to see, so where can I get them published?

You're out of luck at this stage. It's possible mainstream magazines or online zines might take your submission, but you would need to approach them for details.

13. Rules Questions

Various list members have contributed clarifications to the current rules (http://storm-wolves.plugged.net.au/edml/edrules.html). For additions or unofficial changes (house rules, etc), I suggest posting to the list and/or placing it on the Earthdawn ftp site. As mentioned in 11.1, a comprehensive Earthdawn FAQ is still required.
